We started in 2016.
Number of Years in the Area?
1 year.
How Many Offices?
We estimate we will be opening a satellite clinic in the area within a year.
What is the Ownership?
This is a family business; Sheila Smith is our provider, and her daughter Jacqueline Smith is our medical assistant and patient coordinator.
What is Your Mission?
Our Mission is to provide affordable and accessible primary health care for the people of Newberg and the surrounding areas. We work with community stakeholders to remove barriers to care and improve the quality of life for our community. We take most insurances (including Medicare and Medicaid), and provide cash discounts/sliding scale to those at or around the Federal poverty line. We support Service members and veterans and are actively working with Tricare to provide services to the 1200 veterans in the Newberg area as well.
What services do you provide?
Sheila Smith, FNP is a family nurse practitioner with over 20 years of experience in both hospital and clinical settings. She is available to treat, diagnose and refer patients of all ages (children, adults and geriatric).
What makes your clinic different from others?
We specialize in helping and treating those with limited resources and access to healthcare within Yamhill County, but we are also contracted with most major insurances as well. We use state-of-the-art clinical software that allows our patients access to our provider, scheduling flexibility, and payment plans via online and smartphone applications. Our clinical and business systems are electronic, and we promote paperless transactions with our vendors, patients and healthcare partners. We work to reduce our environmental impact in an otherwise waste-intensive industry.
How have customers responded to the opening of your clinic?
Many of our current patients are previous patients of Sheila’s when she used to work in the area. They are so thrilled to have her back in town! Many have come to us and brought their children. It is so wonderful to see these parents putting great emphasis on their children’s health.
Are there any misconceptions your services?
There are so many! We believe that one of the biggest confusions lies with health insurance. The system is very, very complex, and the majority of insurance members don’t know how to maximize their benefit. Furthermore, many patients are concerned they won’t be covered if they see our provider. Our team works very, very closely with our patients to confirm and maximize their insurance benefit, and minimize their out of pocket costs. We can also help with any enrollment and coordination issues. We treat our patients like family.
How did you choose the name for your clinic?
We consider ourselves a Newberg and Yamhill County public resource, so we decided to name ourselves the “People’s Community Clinic of Newberg.”
Why did you choose to open the clinic now?
We feel so blessed and fortunate that many ducks lined up in a row for our startup. Timing was everything for our clinic’s formation; our administrator was transitioning from OHSU, and our medical assistant had just graduated from PSU. Our provider has been envisioning her own clinic for decades, and we finally made it happen. As a family, we are very excited to become a contributing member of the Newberg community, and we look forward to serving our neighbors for years and years to come.
