What is your Company’s Mission?
The Oregon Dyslexia Institute is committed to training teachers in the Orton-Gillingham Approach to Literacy, so teachers recognize and understand dyslexia, use evidence-based practices to systematically & explicitly teach the foundational skills of reading, and learn how to intensify instruction to meet the need of students with severe reading difficulties, including dyslexia.

The Oregon Dyslexia Institute provides 6 levels of training:
Classroom Educator Course Work 30 hours
Classroom Educator Practicum 8 consecutive months 50 hours
Associate Course Work 60 hours
Associate Practicum 8 consecutive months 100 hours
Certified Course Work 100 hours
Certified Practicum 2 years 200 hours
How are we different?
The Oregon Dyslexia Institute provides training by a Fellow of the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators. The Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators is also accredited by the International Dyslexia Association and is part of the Alliance for Accreditation and Certification of Dyslexia Specialists. The Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators can trace its lineage from Dr. Samuel Orton and Anna Gillingham. The Oregon Dyslexia Institute is on the Oregon Department of Education’s Vendor List of Approved Dyslexia Trainings mandated by dyslexia legislation in which every Oregon public school must have a trained teacher in K-5.
Are there any misconceptions about your business or products?
Many people believe that dyslexia is uncommon and that it means you see letters backwards. This is untrue. Dyslexia is very common, affecting 1 out of 5 people, and it is a language-based disability.
