The Chehalem Valley Chamber of Commerce presents Leadership Chehalem Valley

“Leadership Chehalem Valley really opened my eyes to how communities work and the leadership necessary to have them work well. It has opened doors for me and my business and allowed me to plug in and serve more effectively. Next year’s program looks to be even better and I recommend it for anyone looking for solid leadership training, immersion into how the Chehalem Valley is wired, and a means to form good working relationships.”

“Leadership Chehalem Valley exposed me to the incredible breadth of industries and resources that make our community strong, while also providing ample opportunity to expand my professional network, increase my social capital, and enhance my personal leadership. It was an investment that continues to pay dividends for both me and my employer years later.”

Robby Larson, Director of Gift Development, George Fox University

“The local leaders that Leadership Chehalem Valley recruits to present topics are truly amazing. There were so many ‘light bulb’ moments and I think everyone who cares about this community should participate in Leadership Chehalem Valley.”

Heath Cornick, Financial Advisor, Edward Jones

Leadership Chehalem Valley exists to develop a group of educated, informed and motivated civic-oriented leaders who are interested in helping direct the future of the Chehalem Valley and Yamhill County.

  1. To provide a forum for interaction between the experienced leadership of today and the knowledgeable and motivated leaders of tomorrow.
  2. To develop and promote understanding and cooperation among individuals from diverse segments of the community who will influence the area’s future direction.
  3. To form a core of leaders who are informed, skilled and motivated, and prepared to engage within the community for the benefit of the community.

Each participant plays an important role in the two-year development of their cohort. Participants and their sponsoring companies should count the commitment costs of time and effort and be willing to actively engage in every session in support of their fellow participants.

Program

Limited to 20 individuals per year, Leadership Chehalem Valley is a two year program that offers valuable leadership assessment and training, shows how communities are structured and how they work, and puts forth examples of community leadership and their stories.

The first year is comprised of full-day sessions scheduled once per month from September to May and include:

  1. Leadership Assessment & Team Building
  2. Local Government
  3. Education
  4. Health & Human Services
  5. Business & Industry
  6. State Government
  7. Natural Resources
  8. History & Tourism
  9. Community Service & Leadership Planning

The second year, participants become the leadership and steering committee with a view to improving the Leadership Chehalem Valley program.

Each month participants are provided a leadership training session, a tour of hosting organizations and businesses, hear from community leaders about the topic of the day, and learn about and observe leadership in various roles as they participate in active discussions around the day’s topic. Transportation, lunch, and snacks are provided.

Upon completion of the first year, participants become the Leadership and Steering Committee for the next year’s incoming class with a view to improving the program year over year. You will engage in planning the various days’ topics, scheduling speakers, transportation and meals. You will plan and keep to your schedule, introduce speakers, and lead your cohort smoothly through the day with a goal of equipping them with the training you received as a participant. For your last session you will select a non-profit or other program that serves our community and have your cohort spend the day learning about how they support the community and working on a special project or projects that supports their mission.

Graduation is celebrated the following June.

Once engaged in the Leadership Chehalem Valley program, participants are provided an opportunity to meet and engage with Leadership CV alumni.
