There are so many unexpected outcomes from participating in Leadership Newberg. You might end up with a new client, a new friend, or a volunteer opportunity. In fact, the more open you are the more great things can happen.
Leadership Newberg is about learning leadership skills but it also provides a front-row seat with the movers and shakers of our community. Not only is it fascinating to find out how things work and what goes on behind the scenes in Newberg but meeting the people that tirelessly give of themselves to make this a better place to live is priceless.
The Leadership Newberg formula allows participants to immerse themselves a day each month dedicated to a different aspect of the community such as: City and County Government, Education, Health & Human Services, Business & Industry, Natural Resources, History & Tourism, and Community Service. It’s like getting an MBA in your community.
One unexpected benefit is connections that are forged between participants and presenters. There is something special about this shared experience that bonds individuals together and can turn into life-time friendships.
Another unexpected benefit, is for those participants that have spent most of their lives in Newberg, they discover things they were not aware of in their own community. Regardless of what you think you might take away from the experience you will always gain more than you could imagine. It might include understanding how to affect change, how to get involved, or how to create a powerful network. To nominate an individual or to apply for the program, visit our website here.
What some of our participants have to say:
Nick Peters, A-dec, Inc., Class of 2017, “This was a great experience, I grew up in Newberg and was reminded how great this community is! My favorite part of the experience was the new people I met and the networking connections I made. I’m excited to get more involved in these community programs that are doing some great things. “
Angel Aguiar, First Federal, Class of 2018, “ I wanted to take a moment to say “thank you” for the amazing experience I’ve had participating in the Chamber’s annual Leadership Newberg cohort. Some of the things I valued most include: the close association I had with other community members and leaders over the entire time as we shared the day once a month. As a result, friendships where forged that I anticipate will last a lifetime. And the opportunity to get into the heart of the community and the state by engaging in conversation with industry, community, and government leaders. Some of the doors that were opened to us as a group I could have hardly dreamed of ever experiencing otherwise. The program got us, as participants, right in front of executives and government officials to make it almost feel like a “one on one” meeting with the liberty to ask any question on our minds. This exposure has allowed me to take a closer look at our schools, city, county and state from a different perspective. Thank you again for making it all possible. “
Todd Thomas, PMP, NW Natural Gas Storage, LLC., Class of 2017, “I enjoyed meeting and working with local business people with a common goals of learning about our community and making it a better place. The bonus is running into them around town, knowing we shared this great experience, Leadership Newberg!”
